Fashion magazines : Sybille, East Germany

Superb GDR magazine for Fashion and Culture, started in 1956 and bi-monthly published in Ex-east Germany, it was considered as the east Vogue magazine. Full of groovy pop pictures, this mag is really different as the other GDR fashion mags, looks more hip and creative, has some colored pages and beautiful models. It had the revolutionary project to endorse and encourage people in being different, opposite language to the communism idea. Famous photographers from nowadays worked for this mag, as Arno Fischer, very important at this time for his movements between east and west as a frontier runner. An only book was edited in 1998 by Dorothea Melis (Editor of the Sybille magazine) and shows a compilation of 3 decades of fashion photographies in GDR. Each mag contains sewing patterns and measures 26x32cm
